What is fashion? Exact definition – a popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior. But what does FASHION mean to YOU. As an inspiring fashion stylist and fashion blogger, I am often asked the question “What does fashion mean to you ?”. Well for me , I have always felt that the word “fashion” has always served as a different purpose and meaning to many individuals. For me, fashion is an art of expression.

Its goal is to use different designs and brands to express our inner-self and not a reflection of society’s expectations. It, as I have said before, is a form of art. It is something that should be enjoyed — it’s about personal expression and experimentation to discover who you really are. I choose pretty garments and wear specific brands to express my personality. It gives me confidence in myself and others confidence in me. The way I dress, as I believe, speaks for me. It tells people who I am without me having to do the talking.Fundamentally, fashion is an unspoken language of visual signs and symbols but is still a form of communication ; eyes rather than verbally.
“Style is a way to say who are without having to speak” – Rachel Zoe
It seems weird but that’s just how I feel fashion is or should be – creative expression. The beautiful fabrics, architectural shapes, colors, detailing, etc.; each element is integral. Just like a painting, you can see the designer’s vision; what he or she is expressing through their collections. You can see a person’s passion for style when he or she walk down the street and they’re automatically turning heads. How awesome is that?
Without fashion, we wouldn’t have the wonderful and inspiring fashionistas that we all know and grown to love. Without fashion, their work wouldn’t have contributed to our cultural forever, changing the history of fashion.
Undeniably, the fashion industry is a world filled with innovation and imagination. A place filled with passion, dreams and visions, and to some extent, a fantasy used to manipulate one’s perspective view of the world and [ it ] views us. So now I ask you, what does fashion mean to you? Do you wear clothes to express yourself or is it simply about aesthetic pleasure and utility for you? Maybe it’s something completely different altogether. I don’t know but I’m intrigued to find out! How about leaving me a comment and tell me all about. I’m dying to know ! 🙂
